I was browsing a news site and came across an article in Food & Wine magazine. The name of the article is “The 7 Best Wooden Spoons of 2023”. I quickly looked to see if any of our esteemed authors were among the experts paneled for the testing. I’m very disappointed to learn that none were consulted for their article. What do a bunch of chefs and culinary workers know about choosing the best wooden spoon?

Maybe they know what works best for cooking on top of a stove, but not what works best for our purposes, cooking someone's backside.

Interesting post, to say the least.

My wife and I have about 25 wooden spoons in our collection. I think we've used maybe two or three for cooking. You can even get tee shirts that expound on the virtues of wooden spoons (e.g. "I survived the wooden spoon").

A wooden spoon is traditionally awarded to the player/team that finishes in last place. I'm pretty sure the origins of that tradition have nothing to do with cookery, so...?

It'd really sad. What is the world coming to?

I broke a medium wooden spoon on a trip to the northeast. It broke on a friend's butt. We both fell down laughing about the event. However, I had to replace it at Crate & Barrel because we both used it when cooking on the gas stove.

To their credit, there are some wicked looking spoons in their review. Perhaps it was an appeal to a wider market

Cabela's Outdoor's sells a variety of wooden spoons with different sayings written on them. The two that caught my eye were "Momma's Lickin Stick", and "Momma's Spankin' Spoon". Sadly, both seem to have since disappeared.
