I thought of this little word puzzle while driving in Lincolnshire recently. Can you get from SPALDING to SPANKING by changing one letter at a time, with each intermediate step being a valid word? It turned out to be a bit more difficult than I expected, but I eventually managed to do it with 7 changes. If anyone can do it in less I will be suitably impressed!

Spalding - spalling - sparling - sparking - spanking

Spalling means to break into small stones and sparling is a type of fish

Does this mean that all roads lead to spanking...?

Autocorrect seems to think so. I start to write Spanish and it assumes I want to write spanking.
