The inspiration for this came after seeing an old comic of Wonder Woman spanking a criminal. Which character from any medium of literature do you see being a great spanker? With Wonder Woman, seeing as she was raised in isolation in a pretty much warrior nation, I'm imagining her being a quite enthusiastic disciplinarian.

I have fantasized about spanking most of my life and read tons of books, but for some strange reason I can't remember ever having thought of a character as a potential spanker (and perhaps not even as a potential spankee although there have definitely been scenes where I have thought "She could need a good spanking!"). The question also depends on what one means by a "great spanker"; is it just somebody who is likely to spank or does it require him/her to spank in the right way (whatever that means)? If one insists on "the right way", I think the 19th century would provide many good candidates from the novels of Jane Austen and the Brontës (and, of course, from their many latter day followers).

I can imagine a number, especially certain TV and movie actresses.

Inara Serra from Firefly - Being played by Morena Baccarin doesn’t hurt, but I can see the character as a patient but firm disciplinarian.
It’s easy to imagine Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, Nick Charles, Archie Goodwin etc spanking a flirtatious female client.
Emma Frost from the world of X-Men one can see as a slightly more sadistic spanker.
Though we only ever hear his voice, Charlie might well have made the series even more popular by spanking the angels.
And Sherlock Holmes would surely have spanked Irene Adler if he’d ever caught her.

Emma Frost now has me thinking, would villains make for better spankers? With male spankers, it's easier to picture the more classical heroes taking someone over his knee. Female spankers for me it's easier to picture villainesses. But this comes back again to the question, what does one look for in an ideal spanker?

One of several types that grab me would be maternal-style authority figures. Fair but with a firm hand.

Minerva McGonagall (Maggie Smith) at Hogswart (any of the Harry Potter movies).

Samantha Stephen (Elizabeth Montgomery) from "Bewitched".

Jeannie (Barbara Eden) in "I Dream of Jeannie". Or Stella Johnson (Barbara Eden) from "Harper Valley PTA".

Wonder Woman (Linda Carter) because she looked like a spanker.

Barbara Gordon/Batgirl (Yvonne Craig) from the 1960s Batman movie. I always saw her as a switch. one spanked by Batman and Cat Girl, but a spanking babysitter.

Ann Romano (Bonnie Franklin) in the original One Day at a Time.

Jane Jetson from the Jetsons.

Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae) from Diff'rent Strokes and Facts of Life (perhaps spanked before / after Kimberly or Blair).

Dame Judi Dench ... in any of her roles.

Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) - as a switch.

Maude (Bea Arthur), or Bea Arthur from any role. She looked like a spanker, and in Maude she gave a brief spanking to her grandson.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Faith the Vampire Slayer - as switches.

To flip this around: Nellie Oleson. The actress playing that role was amazed about all the spanking lettering (including some early fan fic) that were in her fan mail. The character was played as an over the top rich brat in the 1970s.

Another one: "In the Family Way" presented several opportunities for the newly married wife played by Hayley Mills to go over a knee. Her husband's, her father-in-law's, maybe her mother-in-law, clearly her new brother-in-law, and several others. She even shows off her spankable butt in a bath tub scene (one of the many times she should have been spanked).

Most of the cast of Facts of Life ("If you hear 'em from your brother / Better clear 'em with your mother"). The late Dana Plato when she was Kimberly on Diff'rent Strokes. She later posed in Playboy, showing off how spankable her butt was (she needed the money - and exposure).

Rosanna Davison - back in her Miss World days. Mostly for her views on diet. Coming from a wealthy family, she posed in German Playboy "for the exposure", trying to help her modeling and acting career. Note: Chris de Burgh has written several love songs about her and when she Miss World he focused his tour schedule around her appearances.

Yes, many of those references are dated, but alas, I wasn't born in this century.

I agree with a lot of yours Goodgulf. In Buffy I’d add Cordelia. With TV, though I wonder if we’re looking at the character or the actor.

I'm thinking Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, she doesn't seem to be a woman who tolerates nonsense.

So glad you mentioned that - one of the best films of all time in my opinion. I'm not sure about your "several opportunities" though, as Hayley Mills' character was quite a saint really. But certainly in that scene near the end where her husband gets angry and throws her down on the bed, a spanking could have been introduced very plausibly. As for the bathtub scene, I think the Boulting Brothers (bless them) liked to sneak a little bit of nudity past the censors. I recently watched "I'm all right Jack" which starts and ends in a nudist colony. In the final scene Ian Carmichael is chased towards the horizon by a gang of naked women.

There are quite a few spankers in Dickens (Mr Murdstone, Wackford Squeers, Pip's sister in law) but unfortunately not very nice ones!
