Then there's Jezebel, the film I believe Bette Davis was offered as a consolation prize for not getting Scarlett O'Hara.

Miss O'Hara, of course, probably needed spanking more than almost any other female in the movies. So much so that I've even scripted a spanking for her. If you're interested, you'll find 'Gone with the Wind - The Lost Spanking Scene' on my author page....

In TV, I think there has been more missed opportunities, probably for family content waves, they hinted at and ignored premises.

For example, in Bewitched, Sabrina, Samantha's bratty nearly identical twin sister, certainly deserved a resounding good walloping in nearly every episode she was in. Once, Derwood gives a slap to Samantha, thinking it was Sabrina, but it was really Samantha.

In Giligan's Island, there was one episode where there was a, mistakenly, lethal insect which seemed to have a penchant for stinging the behinds of the perpetual castaways, especially Maryann, and Ginger, within moments of each other. Delightfully, those cherished actresses, upon being bitten, gave a delightful cry, and then clasped their derrieres before calling out imploringly to their platonic whiteknight, the Professor. While not acting bratty enough to "deserve" a good spanking, although their plots to see who was more beautiful might be spank-worthy, besides simply looking hot enough to invoke thoughts of seeing them upended over someone's knee (especially Maryann), this one episode certainly fulfilled the requirement of a missed opportunity.

I dream of Jeannie. Similar to Bewitched with Jeannie's twin sister, but honestly, with her wardrobe, and perpetually innocent "I didn't mean it!" bafoonery, in nearly every episode, Jeannie was the perfect walking example of "missed opportunities."

I'm sure there were others, but initially those stand out in my mind.

I recall reading somewhere, maybe in Chross, that Bette Davis had a clause in her contract that she would not be asked to appear in a spanking scene on screen. Don't know if that was true.
The picture of her otk with Jimmy Cagney in The Bride Came C.O.D. was not a spanking but for having cactus spines removed from her bottom. Seems she had an accident while the movie was being filmed, sat on a cactus, and they decided to incorporate it into the film.
A buttfull of cactus spines would be a lot more painful than a spanking I would think. Not something you'd wish even on the most obnoxious brat!
On the other hand, among present day celebs, it makes me smile to imagine that happening to Kim Kardashian when she was wearing a thong! That would be quite a task dealing with that posterior if it was full of cactus spines! And a painful ordeal for her, Kim would certainly be taking her meals standing for some time!

Samantha actually makes a spanking threat to Sabrina in one episode. Initially she is threatening her little daughter with a spanking, for some mischief involving magic, saying I'll turn you over my knee." Then she turns to her sister who had led the child astray and says, " And the same goes for you, Sabrina, don't think I can't do it."
So wish there had been a scene with Samantha spanking Sabrina, preferably when she was wearing one of her revealing outfits.
And there was MIL Endora. I doubt if Darren would have dared spank her though, as badly as she needed it!

Speaking of Bewitched, here's a link to Sassy Suzie - a doll that should come with 2 brushes.

Ah, and here's a film that has glimpses of spanking, but it could have been so much more.

The Parent Trap starring Hayley Mills. When I first saw it as a preteen... well, it left an impact.

The theme songs mentions that the parents are "too big for the strap".

There's a one whacker of the slapping the side of his daughter's hip. That twin, who has switched places with the one her father has raised, seems to think things through. I imagine it's because she never bothered to learn how her sister was disciplined. That she knew she was risking a pants down spanking over the lap of her father, who she had just met and decided that this would be the hill she might be spanked on.

The other one has the mother landing a pair of slaps on her daughter's bottom, ordering her upstairs to change.

Those slaps put lie to the next part of the story.

Father:It's not my fault. Now, I can't tell them apart. What do you want me to do?
Vickie: Give them a good spanking and make them tell!
Father: Oh, you don't spank 13-year-olds, especially for something like this.

The absolute "you don't spank" followed by that "especially for something like this" makes it clear that he would sometimes spank his daughter - as evident by that one slap on her hip.

I wish that they had shown a spanking, or merely said that one happened, but they didn't.

This discussion about Bette Davis has made me think naturally of Joan Crawford, and the great film Mildred Pierce, which contains the daughter most in need of a sound spanking in movie history: Veda, played by Ann Blyth. She is without doubt the spoilt-est spoilt brat I have ever come across. After Mildred separates from her ineffective husband she scrimps and saves and works her fingers to the bone so that her darling daughter can have anything she wants and mix with the smartest LA society. Mildred works so hard she ends up owning a chain of restaurants and finding herself an upper class but worthless good looking sponging lover. Veda looks down on her mother's 'common' occupation and ends up stealing her lover, whom she shoots. Even then her mother tries to take the blame.
Obviously a spanking would be far too late by then, but what I would give to see Joan Crawford take the back of a hairbrush to the seat of Veda's satin panties when she calls her mother greasy, or something like that. After all, just like Bing Crosby, Joan Crawford had form!

Seegee:
There was almost one in Meet Me In St Louis. Judy Garland was about to spank younger sister Margaret O’Brien (and the character simply begged for a good spanking with her consistently obnoxious behaviour), then Judys older sister got her to laugh and the moment was over, and the brat went unspanked.

We were also promised a spanking for Margaret O'Brien's character, Tootie, earlier in the film, the family is sitting at the table for diner, waiting for the father to come down, when you hear a crash, Tootie says, "Now I remember where I left my other skate." When the father comes down he sets the skate on the table and says, "Tootie, remind me to spank you after supper." After grace Tootie turns to her sister Agnes and says, "If I forget to remind papa, you remind me."

The remind me t spank you line brings to mind a line from a Rowan Atkinson sketch where he’s a teacher taking roll and all the students have sexually suggestive names, one is late to class and Atkinson’s schoolmaster character says ‘Remind me beat you later, Myprick.’

In the James M Cain novel it's adapted from Mildred does in fact spank Veda - and on her bare bottom, too. But alas, as you say, not in the movie.

There was a more recent TV series of Mildred Pierce, with Kate Winslet as Mildred and Evan Rachel Wood as Veda, which I've not seen. Maybe there was a spanking in that? Anyone know?
