In TV, I think there has been more missed opportunities, probably for family content waves, they hinted at and ignored premises.
For example, in Bewitched, Sabrina, Samantha's bratty nearly identical twin sister, certainly deserved a resounding good walloping in nearly every episode she was in. Once, Derwood gives a slap to Samantha, thinking it was Sabrina, but it was really Samantha.
In Giligan's Island, there was one episode where there was a, mistakenly, lethal insect which seemed to have a penchant for stinging the behinds of the perpetual castaways, especially Maryann, and Ginger, within moments of each other. Delightfully, those cherished actresses, upon being bitten, gave a delightful cry, and then clasped their derrieres before calling out imploringly to their platonic whiteknight, the Professor. While not acting bratty enough to "deserve" a good spanking, although their plots to see who was more beautiful might be spank-worthy, besides simply looking hot enough to invoke thoughts of seeing them upended over someone's knee (especially Maryann), this one episode certainly fulfilled the requirement of a missed opportunity.
I dream of Jeannie. Similar to Bewitched with Jeannie's twin sister, but honestly, with her wardrobe, and perpetually innocent "I didn't mean it!" bafoonery, in nearly every episode, Jeannie was the perfect walking example of "missed opportunities."
I'm sure there were others, but initially those stand out in my mind. |
