RosieCheeks I certainly don't think the old nurse's uniforms were that impractical, but then we seem to have descended into a world were many people slouch around in tracksuits, onesies, pyjamas, trainers and bloody awful Crocs. One day soon people will discover style again.

4,000 days ago I was just beginning a very pleasant 4 month visit to Kentucky, back in the days when Americans were still nice towards one another and were still capable of rational political debate.

We just believe any who think differently are "the enemy" and any who don't think like us, want to eliminate all opposition. In other words, we developed fear, and fear isn't de-evolution.

RosieCheeks: Heard a few tales about the uniforms, pretty to look at by all accounts, but rather impractical and not dignity preserving for the nurse when it came to manual handling during patient transfers, as a lady local to me who worked as nurse in that era said "you ended up showing your tomorrows intimate washing to the world". As someone who spent much time in hospital tied to a bed unable to get up or about, I can verify that! Oh deary me! Sisters, Staff nurses, SRNs, SENs and student nurses all had to wear black stockings & suspenders! Not helpful to a teenage boy, thank goodness for bedbaths!

What was I doing in 2009? I was becoming a member of LSF. My profile says that I joined in October 2009. So I must be one of the oldest members here - quite literally at 73 years of age Still going strong and my latest story - An Ex-pupil Remembers - is currently top of the latest additions list on the home page (plug) - comments welcome.

I, too, have become a Grandad and a pensioner since then! Didn't realise I was a veteran member, having joined in Sept 2009. Doesn't time fly when you're enjoying yourself.Not quite as old as Hotspur (sorry but at least that used to be my favourite comic!), though but not too far away!
