Has anyone read a non-fiction book on spanking that they would recommend?

It can be a study on the underlying reasons for people finding spanking appealing.
It can be a Dom or Sub talking about their lifestyle/profession
It can be a history (or her-story ) on the subject.

I have browsed a few over the years, but I can't say I have ever found one that stood out as a great tome.

It's been mentioned here a few times in the past, though if you haven't read "Sex with Shakespeare" by Jillian Keenan I'd highly recommend it. She also puts out informative videos about the lifestyle and her experiences on YouTube if you haven't watched those.

The Adult Spanking and Discipline Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide To Corporal Punishment by Governess Gemma Forbes is great.

Seconding Jillian Keenan's book, which is outstanding.

Late Bloomer by Erica Scott is also great (an autobiography of a spanking movie actress)

Thirding Jillian's book. It's excellent and, frankly, lifechanging.

My Secret Garden by Nancy Friday. The author asked women to recount their sexual fantasies and how they employ them in their relationships with partners. A wide range of fetishes are examined including a chapter dedicated to cp. Mostly fantasies but some accounts describe acting out their fantasies in real life.

It was written in the 1970's so has a rather quaint view of women's sexuality by today's standards but the author tries hard to educate 1970's society (mostly men) who do not accept that "normal" women can have sexual fantasies. I got the impression she was serious about her work.

Many of the interviews were face to face and she seems to have weeded out the inevitable ones submitted by men. I saw only one that I thought may have fallen into that category.

Each chapter is dedicated to a theme eg cp, bondage etc with several submissions from women on that theme. She examines each theme on a psychological basis, trying to establish why women find them erotic. I felt some of her interpretations were shallow with a one-size-fits-all approach but her views are always interesting to consider.

Also interesting to note how many women pointed to some event in early childhood as initiating their fantasy.

Brosse6 - I'm sure there must be academic psychological studies of the subject out there. I recall a TV documentary many years ago where a psychologist reported some of his findings. I can't remember most of his comments other than he said he had never encountered a society that did not have some members interested in cp.

Thanks Penryn. Yes I have browsed a few over the years, a couple where in the university library.

There was one book I saw back in the mid90s, which I can't find online. I am sure it's title was something like Rod and Staff - a history of the smacked bottom. It wasn't the the well known illustrated book or the more contemporary Christian one with a similar title. Maybe some knows it?

If your pseudonym indicates your place of residence I have a story in Flopsy's queue called "The Cornish Well" and is set in the St Just peninsula but mentions Penryn.
