Hey there! So I'm writing a story where a women gets her just deserts in the form of a caning, and I was hoping to get some advice on what type of cane I should use. I really don't know that much about different types of canes and figured I could ask here.

I was planning on having her receive three dozen (slightly excessive I know, but suspension of disbelief for the sake of entertainment) Does anybody have a suggestion on what cane could be (somewhat) believable with that number? It would be much appreciated.

Other cane suggestions and stroke numbers are gladly welcomed for future reference's sake as well.

Here's what I've found on that subject - from the days an educator could walk into a shop and buy a standard cane.

Nursery cane ΒΌ inch
junior cane 3/8
senior cane 7/16
adult cane / reformatory cane (above 7/16 inch in diameter) or made of dragon rattan
Two types of of a bamboo like plant were used:
kooboo rattan – light and flexible – most common material.
dragon rattan – another type of Rattan that is much denser and produces more pain.

If I recall correctly (and if the source I am thinking was accurate) three dozen was the maximum sentence. Here's a link that seems to confirm it.

See http://spankingart.org/wiki/Cane for the source of the above information.

For whatever it's worth, and from personal experience, I find the thinner canes sting a great deal more than thicker ones. Thicker canes leave stripes, and soreness that goes along with them, that stick around (pun partially intended!) for much longer.

I have no personal experience with the cane, nut I have read that while a rattan cane hurts just as much at the time, a bamboo cane is more likely to cause lasting damage.

The big problem with bamboo is that when it breaks, it breaks ragged and cuts. Thicker canes give more thud. If you drum with the cane; medium fast strokes constantly over a say ten minutes of time, it's much easier to take the hard strokes mingled in between. I've given as many as 24 full force in between as many as two hundred plus lighter strokes. Admittedly it's very hard to write a spanking story with drumming, though I see it more often at parties than traditional caning.

Thanks for the info and feedback guys! I think I have a pretty solid idea of what I'm going to go with! Won't spoil anything else though!

The thin cane is a perfect ladies' weapon--it is quiet, fits in a handbag when bent easily, and delivers a major sting with a flick of the wrist. Canings of more than six or twelve are not common and thus not as credible, even in fiction.

If you've ever seen one of Mood Pictures products, they often go beyond three dozen. They also mark the actors to an extent that goes beyond what many here would abide. None of the marks are permanent, but that's at least in part because of fairly extensive preparations before the shoot and good aftercare once the video is in the can.
