As a reader who initially was guilty of "being like a kid in a sweet shop" and sampling lots and lots of stories but not commenting, i now comment on all stories i read, however sometimes i struggle to write a constructive comment of any value on all parts of a sequel, so perhaps readers feel they commented on initial episode/chapter and do not have anything additional to add.

May be number of comments is not best way of seeing how well liked a story sequel was, however i can see why number of comments is your measure.

Just a observation but could the 14 month gap between part 1 and part 2 being uploaded, be a factor regarding number of comments?

I've had pretty good luck with sequels but it does sometimes take several weeks for any number of comments to come in. I wouldn't get discouraged if it isn't an overnight sensation.

What I find peculiar is sometimes the math doesn't add up...I might have 200 views for part 1 of something and 223 views for part two...can't figure out why that might be. Who would want to miss the beginning of something?

Well, possibly readers who prefer actual spanking action, as opposed to the character background and plot development leading up to the described spankings, the latter of which tends to be most heavily featured in the first part of a serial.

While I don't feel that way myself, I'm speculating that some other readers of serials might take that approach...

Some of the stories I submit are in the form of serials or have sequels, some do not.
Either way l check my readership regularly and gain particular satisfaction when I see a reader who has read through an entire serial at one sitting, or even better has read half a dozen of my submissions in turn.
A surprising number do, although of course many dip in briefly then move on to an author more to their taste. I do so myself of course and my items generally reflect my own taste, Asexual and probably a little milder than the norm. My aim is always to make the story and context as interesting as the spanking, although this is easier in my two longer E books.

When I get time to read stories on LSF (which is not so often, as I am very busy with work and family life) I almost always use the search function in order to locate some, by me unread, stories which might be of particular interest to me. For example, I might tick the implement box which is denoted "birch" or "cane", and I might tick the spankee box denoted "F" or "f" and then hit the "search" button. I usually get a lot of hits. Among the hits are often some of the non-first installments in serial stories. I often read some of those non-first installments without bothering to read the first installment in the serial first.

I am impatient to get to the "good stuff", you see!

This phenomenom I have just described explains why I, for one, often read later installments of serials without reading the first installment first. Bad reading habit?

Could also be how the content is indicated, Jenny. Personally I'm not much attracted to F/M or M/M stories; so if Part 1 falls into either of those categories, I probably won't open it. But then if Part 2 is indicated as M/F, I might well take a look at it to see if the storyline grabs me.
