Dr. Carl Gustav Jung, one of the founding fathers of psychoanalysis and protege under Sigmund Freud, may not have had a spanking fetish per say, but he did engage in the practice with at least one of his female patients. Sabina Spielrein, 18, was admitted to Burgholzli under the care of Jung. He diagnosed her with psychotic hysteria and had "repressed sexual feelings and constantly fantasised about transgression and punishment." Jung reported that she was extremely intelligent and educated. She told him she fantasised about him hurting her and begged him, " I want this pain, I want you to do something bad to me." According to her personal diary, Jung spanked her a la daddy style much to her delight. Freud disapproved of his treatment of Spielrein and it eventually led to a falling out between them. In 2011, a film called 'A Dangerous Method' was made about the Jung / Spielrein affair starring Keira Knightley. Unfortunately, Knightley refused to do a bare bottom spanking scene in the movie, much to my disappointment.

There's some discussion about it, and other mainstream films involving spanking , here:

There is, but thanks to Knightley's chickening out it's quite blatantly faked.

In an interview with Salon, Knightley said, "There was a box which he hit, so he was nowhere near me, thank God!" She also states: "I did shots of vodka - definitely - beforehand, and then a couple glasses of champagne as a celebration of never having to do that again."

She should have won an Oscar for her interviews concerning the film. She is definitely a drama queen.

It's interesting to note that Freud, who strongly opposed Jung on his decision to spank Spielrein also found disagreement with another of his contemparies, Wilhelm Reich (on a different, yet similar subject). Reich believed that sadomasochism wasn't a learned trait, but a part of the sex economy and is present at birth. I somewhat agree with Reich on this because I have always had a spanking fetish, and I don't believe it was something I "learned." Freud seems to be the odd man out on this.

It was a very disappointing scene in an otherwise excellent performance by Knightley. It seems that actors don't want to do their own stunts of this nature, but they do things like slimming and putting on weight and fight training etc, so why not a dose of realism here?

they were probably afraid of annoying the director who will suddenly be unsatisfied with the shot and insist on multiple retakes. From multiple angles. Each.

One of Jungs famous quotes:

"There is no coming to consciousness without pain"

So folks to remain conscious and maintain the consciousness of others a little pain is prescribed, i wonder how a little pain could be inflicted....?
