Posting a serial...over a number of weeks or all at once?

I don't plan my writing, and when I do it doesn't always work out. Sometimes stories that seem like the start of a series fizzle out; sometimes a one off turns into a series, or a number of connected stories. Sometimes they go in different directions; a couple have ended up so dark that I'd deleted them and decided I need less stress in my life.

The one time I posted a series all at once, it was one 20k word document that got rearranged thematically a bit - so it looked like a series, but wasn't written as one. Abrupt endings to series are frustrating, but I'm guilty of it occasionally just because the writing ... sort of happens, isn't planned.

I don't intend to release over a long period, but my first series here looked like it ended when I was only part way through. It took me years to get it all written. I should probably work on that.
I never thought about too many chapters hijacking this site. I love reading multiple chapters at once. I also like to binge watch TV episodes when I can, so that is just me. I don't do well with anticipation.

It would appear that my recent submission of the Oxford University Spanking Club may have triggered this thread. Apologies to those who feel that I was trying to 'swamp' the new submissions with the 25-part series - this was certainly not my intention.

...and when I read my comments in this thread, it strikes me how utterly I failed to focus on the most important thing of all; that you keep writing We all might have different ideas on how to publish our stories, but for all that's holy to us - do keep writing and uploading, to ensure that we get the diversity that makes this meeting place as great as it is.

I have decided to add my 2 cents to this topic, which will help clarify nothing. I don't mind a serial posted all at once, as I can read the whole story, start to finish, and enjoy it like reading a book. Their is something fun about waiting for the next chapter to show up and see what happens in a favorite serial I am reading and following, when the next update happens, looking through it is almost like Christmas, seeing if I got the present I wanted.

This is a bit on topic for me. I don't generally read serials until they're finished (and I'm talking about a serial as opposed to a series) and the couple of serials that I have posted were posted once I'd finished the whole thing. I've been working on one for quite some time and part of what is taking that time is that I want to complete it before sending it to be posted.
