Mathematical Modeling of Whip Motion

For those mathematically disposed and wishing to read an article developing a model of whip motion, you may wish to read:

Nobody should be allowed to use a whip before they have read and understood this seminal paper! (And quite interesting to see that I know one of the authors cited).

The researcher is quite an interesting fellow. He has another paper just on whips.

On another thought, if you can force someone to learn the paper - that would be sadism on a totally new level, even more painful than the whippings.

How about; proof of the principles of the conservation of angular momentum through sound whipping.

Ok, I have looked at this paper, actually all the way through. Somehow I'm not quite convinced that this deals with the same "whips" and "chains" that people on this site are interested in. Possibly more along the lines of the branch of theoretical physics dealing with an aspect of string theory.

Well that's disappointing

I think there is an error on page 3 half way down which causes less pain if corrected. The author should be spanked.

I started reading it, and discovered too many symbols from my high school Physics classes, both years of it. As much as I learned from those classes, and even for all the respect I had for my teacher, who in fact was a fantastic teacher, I decided to forgo the punishment of reliving those days of studying motion, acceleration due to gravity, changes in motion due to gravity, the coefficient of friction. Beat me if you must, I just couldn't do it.
