I guess this would be my first post on the forum here. I wanted to thank all readers here of the stories we create. When you comment on what we write, you inspire and drive us to do more. When you comment I listen and gain more ideas, just like other writers do. You the Reader make us the writers, who we are and for that, I wish to thank you all.

Well said. I couldn't guess how many of my stories came from someone's comment or suggestion. So please do better than me and let us know what you think, good, bad or indifferent (I think it was about 5 years before I ever made a single comment on this site).

I second the previous comments. My inspiration has also come from stories I have read here and comments I have received. Yes, authors love comments, and all, whether entirely favorable or critical, are beneficial. One of my short stories was directly inspired by mj2001's story "Waiting". So stories and comments do result in inspiration for the authors.

Thanks for a very kind and supportive thread, it's much appreciated. I do write for my own sake, but had I not had this place to write for, I would never complete a full story. It allows me to develop myself and my language skills. Most of the inspiration I also find in other author's work and I am forever in their dept for writing so much on their spare time, giving us so much joy and relaxation. This place is a haven and I would also like to extend my thanks and gratitude to you all.

Like most people I write because I want to, because I enjoy it and find it fascinating thinking up new plots and scenarios. I really like the Spanking Library because it is the best place to publish my work.

So do I want to thank the readers? I certainly want to thank the people who post a comment, or favourite my story. I do get a buzz from seeing the nimber of reads increase on a daily basis.

But do I want to thank the readers?

Its like a symbiotic relationship, they need the author as much as we need them....and of course the authors make up a good number of the readers.

When was the last time the readers posted a forum post thanking the authors...not that there is any reason why they should. So why do we authors want to post a thanks to them?

I suppose no readers would mean no library, but just the same applies if no-one wrote a story.

So the question here is am i making a valid point....or just being a miserable old git

Ok on balance ...thanks....

Hedgehog -'So the question here is am i making a valid point....or just being a miserable old git'

Even though I may cook supper, when my wife passes me a plate I say thanks. I cook and my wife does other things so the relationship is based on doing things for each other. I think saying thanks for something no matter how the other person takes part is important.

Yes the readers need us as authors, but I would have quit writing a long time ago if there ware no readers. I might have survive without comments, although that would be dreadful. So yes, ...a miserable old git might be a good assumption IMHO. However there are likely a lot of authors who may agree with the way you feel, and I may be the miserable old git myself.

I certainly do think we should say thanks to the readers! Especially those who take the time to comment. And if you don't comment-well, thats all right too, not everyone feels they have the time or the inclination.
I do think its just as important that we authors take the time to send a popup thanking people for their comments. I always try to do so . Of course that might not be feasible for everyone, such as those who post many more stories than I do and can get swamped with comments.

As Petruchio told Kate, "The smallest service is repaid with thanks."

It is satisfying to be read. Art in any form is about communication between the artist and the person perceiving or experiencing the art. It is a symbiotic relationship in which each is needed and both are worthy of thanks.

If you go to live theater, the curtain speech always includes a thank you to the audience for being there and it typically ends with the audience thanking the players with their applause.

It has happened... just not as often as we thank them (and each other). But dwelling on the way a lot of LSF readers scarcely manage one comment for every 500 stories viewed is enough to turn anyone miserable and old git-ish.

"Swamped"? Let's not get carried away!

It's even more satisfying to write, though the desire for acknowledgement never fades. We're very fortunate that Februs provides the means for this acknowledgement to be expressed (comments and favourites), and the sources of evidence of how much we're read. And don't forget the "Guests" - they usually outnumber members and presumably they're reading too!
