Pedant note: F/M, not F/m. I could be wrong, but I think capital letters are used for adults, and lower-case letters for under-18's. I'm sure someone will correct me if that protocol has changed since I first saw it...

It is definitely the case here in the LSF and it certainly helps when searching out a story, but you will see upper and lower case mixes elsewhere based on dynamic instead of age. So sometimes you will see a person refer to F/m in the same way "D/s" is used, i.e. the capital labels the dominant party and the lower case represents the submissive. At those times it is assumed that both parties are adults and that age is not being represented.

I know, and it never fails to confuse me, because it's redundant. That's the POINT of having the dynamic described as a FRACTION, y'all. The TOP part of the fraction means that person is the TOP, and the BOTTOM part of the fraction means that person is the BOTTOM. Yes, I am a lot of fun at parties.

Some of us get it, and I'll bet you are the life of the party, especially when you whisper in someones ear, "hey, let's go off somewhere quiet and i'll spank your butt."

No, on second thought, you probably have done that.

Yes, I've thought that much as well, i.e. there's no need to put the 'denominator' as a small-case letter since that individual is already indicated as the recipient of domination and/or discipline.

Sometimes I've seen it shown this way:

F = adult female (woman)
M = adult male (man)
f = teenage girl (13-17)
m = teenage boy (13-17)
g = preteen girl (12 & under)
b = preteen boy (12 & under)

"Y'all"? So are you from the Deep (American) South or the Lone Star State...??

I don't think I've used the term y'all here, but, I am from Texas, for what that's worth.

Hardly. I'm Scandinavian/French/German/Russian/????/Canadian. I did live in a Southern state for three years though, for grad school many years ago, and everyone said y'all - which is an absolutely excellent grammatical construction that neatly fills the appalling lack of a plural 'you' in English. Here in Canada people mostly use y'all to make fun of Americans though

Right, so I wouldn't mind so much about the whole upper-case lower-case thing, except that it slashes important information from a conveniently compact label. We can show gender and age at once if we all assume the denominator is the submissive party (cuz it's on the *bottom*), or just gender if we don't.

Just to be a pedantic so and so - 'you' is the plural -it's the singular 'thou' that we no longer use. C/f vous & tu in French. It's probably more appalling to only use the more formal plural even with one's closest friends.

Oh, charming.

I'm sorry if my comment offended you, it wasn't my intent.

However, it is good to see others, from other parts of the world besides Texas using the contraction "y'all". Not a big fan of it's usage, but have heard it my entire life.

I definitely get aroused during a spanking and have even been know to 'trickle' now and again (I know...too much information).
However, a full blown, no nonsense, no dialogue blistering, soon has my mind elsewhere with the resultant drooping somewhat inevitable.

A good hard spanking though, with appropriate scolding and teasing, especially when the spanks are timed to fit the dialogue, can be extremely erotic...regardless of how painful it is.

It is a skill though, that certainly in my experience, not all PD's have mastered.
