In my case, it took at least week, after up to five swats with the "board of education" style wooden paddle that was in such frequent use during the 50s and 60s in the North Carolina public school system. Throughout the the thick hardwood blade were dime sized drilled holes, which served to greatly accelerate the paddle's velocity, insuring maximum sting and thud upon impact. Of course, having earned swats at school meant the trusty razor strop was waiting for me when I got home. Oh, the memories! |
