The idea of a 10,000 word story challenge is interesting, but I wonder how many entries would actually be submitted. I suspect it wouldn't be nearly as many (47) received for the current challenge. In order for something like this to work, there would probably have to be a longer period of time between the announcement of the challenge and the submittal deadline.

A possible advantage of having a 10,000 word challenge is that it could provide a way for the LSF to get some additional spanking stories to sell through it's LSF Publications arm. Over the past year, I've written a half dozen spanking romance "shorts" in the range of 7000 - 11,000 words for LSF Publications, and I'm donating the modest proceeds from the sales of the individual volumes to help support the LSF. Therefore, if there were a 10,000 word challenge, it might provide a way for more of the authors here to be "published" and also serve as a fundraising project for the site.

Sometimes I find my stories have to be padded slightly to creep over the minimum word count, and I've rarely written a really long story.

For me, it's the other way around. My first stories were long, dense affairs. They are here in the library, but were chopped up into "serials" to better fit the format here. I have spent the last several years trying to figure out how to write sub-5000-word stories, and it finally feels normal for me. But still, I have very few truly short stories.

A 500-word maximum challenge would be a REAL challenge for me! A 1000-word maximum would be only slightly less so.

Can you imagine having to wade through four dozen 10,000 word stories? I don't think many people would do it. But, of course, a really good 10,000 word story seems far shorter and a really bad 1,000 word story seems never-ending.

Read and voted on all stories submitted.

My rationale is that all the writers have made effort to submit their story, i as a reader should make effort to read and vote on them all.

It has to be said we have some marvellous wordsmiths here on LSF, something i am in true awe regarding.

Thank you to all the writers who submitted stories.

Congratulations to those on the podium, particularly Peter 242, your story was my personal favourite, and got my highest marks.

And many thanks to the admins for running the challenge, your deadline inspired me to tap away at my keyboard and commit my idea to pixels. Without the impetus of this challenge, it would've most likely stayed locked away inside my head, haunting my dreams...
