and I say that as someone who's never won despite my entries clearly being vastly superior to all others on all occasions.

Sounds like a good theme for the next challenge: "Pride comes before the fall"

One second place and two times runners up is not so bad I would think.

I'll save the longest stories for last - sorry, but if the the author hasn't been courteous of my time be remaining brief, then perhaps they'll miss out on the opportunity for a top score.

Like mati, I find the longer stories are generally the best.

If the Challenge doesn't specify a maximum length, then people are free to make their story as long as it needs to be. One year, someone wrote a story of around 13,500 words, and while I was relieved that all the other challenge entries weren't as long, I very much enjoyed the 13,500 word one. Plaudits to the author for making an effort and doing what a lot of our authors struggle with - which is to write something substantial which keeps the reader engaged throughout.

Like Mati and PhilK, I like the detail in the longer works, and find it interesting to see how different authors cope with the challenge of writing something more sizeable.

Well goodness me, all I wanted was to encourage others with my own enjoyment of the challenge and now I'm reading all these posts with people disagreeing about different aspects of it!

Don't worry, that happens with every challenge!

It's a time-honored tradition.

I'm in favor of keeping things as they are. Why should we seek change and risk not having our favorite gripes to whine about? It'd be way too much work to to get up to speed on the new "faults," resulting from altered rules or procedures, in order to complain about them competently.

It has been a fun journey into the spanking fantasy realm to read the many different amazing stories in the current challenge. The creativity in the entries sets the bar high to be one of the winners.

I'm about half way through the challenge stories. There are some truly excellent ones, and lots of good ones. Though I probably won't end up voting, since I'm unlikely to be finished by tomorrow.

Sometimes I find my stories have to be padded slightly to creep over the minimum word count, and I've rarely written a really long story. A challenge with a minimum word count of, say, 10,000 would be more challenging than the norm!

That would be a challenge indeed a 10.000 word story. But it would also be a challenge to read all the stories if the length of the challenge is the same.
Also i would not vote because i like the more shorter stories but that is personal.
