I'm trying to set up a website to host my stories including some that don't qualify for uploading here (fanfiction, etc). Building the website was simple enough, but does anyone know of a good web host who won't shut down my account because of its content (mostly domestic child spanking fiction)? Free would be great, but I don't mind if I have to pay a few dollars a month if I can go to sleep knowing my website will still be there in the morning.

Stay away from child spanking either fiction or real life. That is asking for trouble.

Didn't know that fan fiction was not accepted here. We actually have some.
Exactly what is it you write that they would not accept here? There certainly is domestic child spanking here- like some Grace Brackenridge stories.

I'm not sure if it's an overall ban on fanfiction, but I have quite a long a series that's loosely based on Lurking Dragon's Rejuv Universe which I was told was unsuitable for the archive.

It's not so much about needing somewhere to host most of my stuff, as that I'd just like to have my own little spot online for my fiction.

I've been using Blogspot for ages as a simple story archive. It's a little clunky, but it's a solid platform and you can't beat the price.

I think I see the problem.

Fanfic on a major topic is one thing. If you're doing Star Wars Fanfic, or Star Trek, or Buffy, or Lord of the Rings, or... Well any major setting. That's one thing.

Fanfic based on a minor topic is another thing. For example, if I read something Imreadonly2 or Watcher or one of the other authors here has written and say "Hey, I like those characters. I'm going to write Fanfic based on it" - then that's something different. I can see a story like that being rejected if you can't prove that you have permission of the original author.

And I've seen that happen. A few years ago (well, longer than that) someone wrote a sequel to someone else's story and people were confused by that. Those "hey, what are you doing using my characters" type reactions can be hard on a site, so I can see the library not wanting to host that second type of Fanfic.

Hi folks
Just to make it clear, we do include fan fic amongst our coverage (Click Submissions... Browse .... Fan Fiction ... to browse that category in the bookcases)
But what we don't include is anything to do with rejuve, and we won't be changing our stance on that policy.

This was never meant to be a critique or debate of the archive's submission policies. I'm sure they have their reasons for that decision. Either way, I'd like to steer things back toward webhosting.

None of my stories involving children are sexual, and my writing style isn't particularly graphic, so there shouldn't be any real legal issue with hosting the content. It's more a matter of finding a web host who doesn't have a personal objection to the subject matter.

It depends what you mean by "host" and what actual functionality you're looking for. if you just simply want somewhere to display your stories then blogger (as Guy has mentioned) will do the job or if you want the ability to do a little more then Wordpress is an option. Both are available for free without any requirement to use an actual "host" and both can be backed up, so if for whatever reason the respective providers of those software packages removed your content you'd be able to restore it subsequently.

If you want "free" and "no hassle" I would be happy to host your material under my own personal site. The only downside would be that the link would be something like http://rikspanks.com/yourindexpage.html (not my actual domain name).

I hosted my own site for my stories for a while (though under a unique domain name), never got any hassle from my host (a major webhosting service). Though the lack of hassle may be attributable to my lack of visitors. I didn't advertise my story site, I just shared it personally with like-minded individuals. Very little offends me, so no worries there. I made my own story site for the same reason you state - some of my stories were not suitable for the sites I was posting to at the time, but I wanted to make them available to readers who were interested.

Send me a popup for more info, if you're interested.
