One of the greats dies at 93. What a legend he leaves behind.

I was surprised to hear the news last night as, to my shame, I already thought he was dead. I was aware several years ago of various members of his family (some of his children and his then-wife) fighting over custody of him (apparently he was suffering from dementia and ill health) and his estate. His legacy is long and distinguished along with, unfortunately, some dreck (done for the money no doubt) but, as has been discussed before, it's difficult to be both a child star and successfully transition to an adult career. He did both and did it admirably.

RIP Mick...

He was never my thing, but credit to him for carving out such a long and distiguished career.

My grandmother loved Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland together in the movies. They were the exploited teen stars overworked and underpaid, initially. Their early start in Hollywood established the genre of teen flicks and developed many of their addictions. Long days in studio and few hours sleep. They were given uppers to stay awake and downers to sleep for just a few hours. I liked those old black and white movies.
i never did care for his standup routines, though. They were too cynical.
RIP Mickey!

I was ready to play my old vhs tape of National Velvet. My hubbie still has a vhs to dvd converter and had recently transferred it as a surprise. What a movie with Mickey Rooney and a very young Elizabeth Taylor. Mickey is wonderful in the movie as the steeplechase trainer and rider. However, it is Elizabeth who steals the show. If you have not seen this movie it is well worth your time especially with popcorn and cuddling.

I loved that movie, too, Southern Lady. I enjoyed Liz Taylor in anything she does. She was another child star; a pity she could not thrive in a stable relationship. She was another victim of Hollywood.
