As much as I hate sounding like a nattering nabob of negativitism, there has been something gnawing away at my insides about which I can no longer keep silent. As many of you frequenters of the Forum have undoubtedly noticed, member after member who posts here has taken advantage of the new feature now available by donning an "avatar" to show themselves to their fellow members.

Alas, a disturbing counter-trend has now arisen, with far too many members eschewing this option, even among members who make frequent use of the Forum.. I don't have to name names, as you know who you are... but... I'm gonna do it anyway:

turk rollin tysout ChardT LawrenceKinden Alan Barr mati Wheatwine

CrimsonKidCK Sebastian sixofthebest dund93 smartfulcodger opb Hotspur

I'm sure there could be even more.

So my question to you all is this - WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU HIDING FROM US???? Oops, sorry. I didn't mean to get so excited there. The point is this: all of us... the rest of us, that is... are laying our souls bare here, sharing our innermost selves via display of our avatars. But you? We are allowed to see nothing of you but a faceless male or female form. Just how are we expected to tolerate that?

So... get your act together. If you need help, Februs is more than willing to provide assistance (aren't you Februs?), much as he did with me, finding the perfect avatar to announce my acute technical acumen. Or feel free to pick your own. **

And yes, even if you are NOT a frequent post-er here on the Forum, having a personality-revealing avatar is STILL recommended.

Please, everyone - get with the program!

** or, for a small fee, I'm sure canadianspankee will be willing to help pick something suitable.

Well, Nick, tell us how you really feel. Lol, I think that I am understanding where you are coming from in a way.

Well, Nick,

I think you may be confusing Nick with Rick! Of course it maybe he has changed his name without telling anybody which wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I haven't got a clue how to change my avatar.
Would someone mind explaining to this old technophobe please.
Thank you.

I think you have to attach it to an E-Mail and send it to Februs.
Not sure though Dund' so don't quote me.
Even at that...I don't think I've got the forum's address.

You can't do it yourself. You either have to email the selected avatar in, or ask Februs to select one for you, as Tysout suggested. Send him (Februs) a popup if you need more info. Being the Scottish gentleman you are, perhaps you want one an avatar of bagpipes, or a gent in a kilt.

Or even a gent without a kilt.

One thing to try is to go to Google, select "images" and then put your screen name (or whatever you wish) in the search box. Google will bless you with pages full of apparently random thumbnail images. Likely none of them will have anything to do with you, but you might just find a gem!

One thing to remember when selecting a picture for an avatar is to shrink it down to 50x50 pixels to see how it looks. (You can use the 'Resize' option in MS Paint to test it.) A lot of pictures may look clever or cute in full size but are indecipherable when made that small. I think Old Grumpy with a paddle here is on the borderline of being too hard to see clearly.

Well Rick, that tells more about me than any other avatar could do
