RIP Shirley Temple

There was a spanking scene in "We Willie Winkie" but apparently it was cut though here's a still of the scene with her over Mom's lap.

I read somewhere that the late and much lamented Shirley Temple was in fact spanked by her real life mum on a film set when she played up. Can anyone confirm that? Presumably there was no film record made!

She wrote in her autobiography that her mother was a constant presence on the set to protect her from one kind or another of mistreatment or exploitation (apparently one director actually scared her to make her cry for a scene) and , I believe, confirmed that her mother gave her a spanking or two (in private) when she acted up.

I read somewhere that Shirley's mother suggested she be spanked in Wee Willie Winkie, saying something like 'Even I've spanked Shirley.' The actress who administered it was reluctant for the hit that spanking America's Sweetheart could cause to her career and that thinking may have influenced the removal of the scene from the film.

A thing that I didn't even know was that Shirley Temple was a US ambassador in my country and was present at two great events in our history -- invasion of the Warsaw Pact army in 1968 and the revolution in 1989.
