Not her fault though. She was indeed quite the appealing young lady, and very attractive too, but, at the time they were a dime a dozen and a whole new crop of actresses had arrived on the scene. After the war, times were vastly different and the public wasn't interested in a "grown up" Shirley Temple. As a child star, she was the archetype and the undisputed number one for all time; as an adult, she was one of many young, attractive actresses with the baggage that goes with being a child star, in this case, THE child star. Trying to replicate THAT success was setting the bar high indeed. Her place is history was secure even then, and even more so now.
You know, I knew she was getting on and all, but somehow the news that she was dead took me quite by surprise. I guess I had imagined she would always be around; kind of immortal in a way...
