Cutting the switches then birched

I've cut switches several times in Louisiana when I was a girl. There was a heavily wooded area where sycamore saplings popped up year round. The saplings grew up to six or seven feet high with one to three leaves on top with smooth, unblemished bark. I cut them from the ground and my mother cut it to the appropriate length and stung away.

I don't like to send her out to cut switches. Although, it is a great line "go cut me a switch woman, now!"

I like her to join me as we stroll around the back yard as I select the switches. We can have our obligatory little talk about out issue and why she is being punished. The tension builds before we return to the house.

wow, virginia did you really have to cut switches? I think that would be almost as bad as the actual switching! Not quite, but almost...

Yes, and strangely I cut very good switches.
