Pshaw on all this talk of pads and droids. I just fire up the old 486 and load my Netscape Navigator.

Computer chips used to be known by numbers but that went out of fashion after the 585.98764 chip

Now that is history. A long way from the Sinclair Spectrum 48k. Then spanking has moved on from there as well

I'm still using my Apple 2C. When that works too fast for me, i switch to my Banana 2000.

Any Opus fans here?

I remember a joke ad that appeared one sunday as a Bloom County strip. it was a caricature of Gene Simmons on one side and the ad was titled "Gene Simmons never had a personal computer when he was a kid." How do we know, the ad continued? We know because our research has demonstrated that a kid who does not have a personal computer will grow up to play in a heavy metal rock band and have a tongue that hangs down to his kneecaps. just like Gene Simmons. But of course if we would just buy a Banana 2000 self portable computer, our kids' futures wouldn't have to look like that!

Yes, Bloom County, the greatly missed comic strip by Berke Breathed, was the birthplace of the fictional Banana 2000 (and the subsequently equally fictional Banana 6000). My favorite character from that comic was semi hapless Opus, the flightless waterfowl who was NOT a penguin. I just found out that Opus has a facebook page!
