Just watched the episode where Howard's mother was discussing the time Howard walked in on his parents and she was spanking his naked dad with Howard's ping pong bat.
Coupling this with the episode in which Sheldon spanked Amy, there is definitely a spanko among the scriptwriters.
Hopefully the lovely Penny is next to have a spanking related scene scripted.

The newest show had Sheldon smacking Amy after he'd drank several beers. She reacted with a very large grin on her face. I think you're right about the script writer.

Given what Leonard's mother is like, it was probably part of an experiment. The spanko could be Chuck Lorre (show creator), he's referenced it on his other huge hit Two and a Half Men, and I'm not 100% sure, but it may have also popped up on an earlier show of his Dharma and Greg (which by the way is well worth watching particularly in it's early seasons as it was a very funny show).

Spanking seems to be coming out of the dark in a big way with all these shows. I remember an episode of Friends. Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) was giving hell to one of the guys. One of them came downstairs and said, "wow, does that come with a pants down spanking?"

There used to be a clip from the show that they showed in the start of Friends with Lisa Kudrow's Phoebe giving Jennifer Aniston's Rachel a good pop on the behind. Given Jennifer Aniston's surprised reaction, and yes I know she was meant to be act that way, but I often wondered if Lisa Kudrow hit her a little harder than she had originally bargained on.

Amy definitely enjoyed Sheldon smacking her on the ass. Given the earlier episode when he spanked her and she apparently enjoyed that as well, I'd say there's definitely a spanko on staff. And given that Chuck Lorre is the show runner, it's likely either him or at least he's given his permission for the show to go in that direction. It may be that that's as close as poor Amy will get to having sex with Sheldon, though...

Just saw this episode - so much later in the UK! It was a decent smack he gave her though, wasn't it, and she seemed quite happy with it...

So true, Seegee. However, I do recall the time Penny got Leonard's Mother drunk and that analytical side went out the window fast. I believe she was hitting on a bellboy before the night was over so who knows where this might lead. Best show on TV, IMO.
