Did everyone notice...Rick Marlowe has a "Part 1" of a serial on site.....

I could hardly believe my eyes, but then I thought NJ is likely getting a little older now and dementia may be setting in, so it could be hard for him to keep his stories together. The dementia thing is just an ugly rumour I heard on the gossip sites, but then again, there is always a little truth in everything...LMAO

It's definitely not dementia - the story is much too good for that. He could, of course, just have split one of his ordinary stories into parts....

Absolutely! Or, he could be drawing inspiration from other positive things in his life. Let's not knock it! Rick writing serials is a good thing! No matter how he wants to categorise them!!!!!

Or ink on cereals. If the result is no serial, it would be still art.

What's all the fuss about? All I did (as Alef suggested) was submit part of a story. The man is a genius (particularly in his evaluation of quality).

Are you saying that Rick writes only "ordinary" stories, Alef? I think it's pretty extraordinary that the author who said he would NEVER write a sequel has done that very thing. Never say never!

Perhaps it was one of Rick's New Year's resolutions to write a serial? Probably an easier one to keep than the typical "exercise more" and "lose 10 pounds".

I think that rather too much is being made of this. Once I finish the carefully-planned 197 chapters of this single, cohesive narrative, all will be as it was before. I still will not write a sequel, which (for me) would be nothing more than a feeble attempt to cash in on the popularity of one of my earlier stories that would better be left it its previously perfect and concluded state.

There was a query in the Guardian the other day, referring to the 19th-century practice of serialising novels in magazines and wondering why it doesn't happen today. Time to put them in touch with LSF, I think, with special reference to Rick's promised 197 chapters.
Of course, writers of 19th-century serials got paid for them ...
