I did the grown up cheer leader once, borrowed an authentic outfit from one of the local highschool cheerleaders here. Not sexy, but it got attention. My sister was a pregnant girl scout, when she was in her early 20's, that was lots of fun, especially since she wore it to work.
There is a passage, for want of a better word, in the novel Little Women, by Louisa Mae Alcott, where the girls were punished by having to hem their dresses, making them the hem's width shorter. Not only was that a LOT of work because the floor length gowns they wore then, (post Civil War, I believe) were very full, but it also said that after being turned up several times, the dresses started to become too short to be presentable, or proper. I guess they were allowed to undo them for good behavior.
I'd have been sewing till my butt hung out. Need to look for alternative to sewing I think. |
