When were you first aware you were into spanking?

My fascination was always there to a certain extent, but I really began to discover it during my preteen years, around ages 10-12. I'd been curious before - I did common things like constantly read a rare spanking scene from a book or look up words like "spank" and "paddle" in the dictionary. But what really made me aware of my intense interest was using the internet more often and discovery websites that talked about spanking. Suddenly I had access to all kinds of material and information about spanking and corporal punishment instead of the small snippets I was used to.

For a long time, my fascination with spanking was accompanied by a large amount of guilt. I didn't understand anything about fetishes or kinks, and I just figured that my thoughts were shameful and that there was something wrong with me. Eventually I learned that there wasn't anything to be ashamed of and that curiosity about spanking isn't even that uncommon.

I suppose when I was of junior school age I began to notice the number of spankings in comics of the day (1960s) especially when it was a female recipient such as Minnie The Minx or Beryl The Peril but I was a timid child and had no desire to actually misbehave to the point where I would get caned at school or a good hiding from my father so I went through my childhood relatively unscathed punishment-wise.

For about the next thirty years I began to fantasise and would treasure the odd spanking snippet I found in a vanilla novel or newspaper article though I couldn't discuss real-life spanking without blushing. Have moved from famine to feast in the last few years with the proliferation of safe spanking sites such as this.

I'm pretty sure there are only two on-screen spankings by John Wayne, in McLintock! and Donovan's Reef. (Maureen gets roughed up a fair bit in The Quiet Man, but not spanked.) If you can identify any others, Runcy, I'd be very interested to hear of them.

The now largely forgotten Tim Holt (Magnificent Ambersons, Treasure of the Sierra Madre) dished out more movie spankings than JW, in three minor westerns: Rustlers (1947), Thunder Mountain (1947) and The Stagecoach Kid (1949).

I've always loved the spanking Rod Cameron gives Yvonne De Carlo in Frontier Gal (1945), not only because it's one of the longest I've ever seen in a mainstream movie (about 50 swats), but because it's being watched by De Carlo's wide-eyed little daughter. Put me in the "can't remember not" category. In grade 3 my best friend and I would have long discussions about who among our classmates deserved to be spanked, and for what, and how hard it should be, and over clothing or bare. Then I discovered Johanna Lindsay and Virginia Henley and other alpha-hero romances who threatened to spank and, once in a great while, followed through.
Then the internet, and the rest is history.
