I've tried Marmite, it just doesn't have the same kick as Vegemite, it is odd how only Australians enjoy the taste, though.

So what does that mean exactly. Are you saying Australian's are odd because they enjoy the taste...it seems like a lot of commenters on this thread would agree with you if that is what you said?

Are you saying the taste is odd enough that only a small percentage of the worlds population would like it, which if all those who do like it live in or around the same place, does that mean the environment affects Australians different then the rest of the world, and is that good or bad? The comments about Vegemite would seem to indicate it is not a good situation for any Australians to be in.

I personally as I have stated have never seen Vegemite or its possible effects on Australians, should I look for something specific or is it something in general the Vegemite does to ensure Australians like it?

Just wondering you know....

I dunno, Canadian. Australians generally seem to love it, even if we're not raised on the stuff as I was. My father never tried until he was well into adulthood, but really enjoyed it. You mention it to other people, especially Americans, but it seems Brits are the same and if they have tried it they invariably don't like it. There must be something about our palates. They tried to change the taste of it a few years ago and there was a public outcry.

Both Aussies and Brits who enjoy either of these horrible concoctions are strange. The faintest scent of an open jar can bring on shivers of dread.

"Strange" is relative. The Romans regarded trouser-wearers as strange. Many people regard Americans as strange. Please translate "different".

I enjoy Vegemite and I'm British. I just find Marmite a bit too strong and too salty. I find Vegemite a bit milder and more caramelly. I like caramel tastes.

When walking the Pennine Way, I was caught by a very cold, foggy early morning on Cross Fell, the highest point of the way. When I arrived at a sheep-shelter and found several other sheltering walkers, I was desperate for fast energy food - but that day I had no chocolate or dried fruit with me. The only food I was carrying was half a jar of Vegemite. No spoon or knife either, to cut down weight in every way possible. I stuck my fingers in the jar and licked them. Not haute cuisine (hot cousin in French), but I felt better for it!

At first I thought Marmite was one of our members who was banned for making sarcastic comments. Lol

It could be Andrew Marr.

My nephew was studying in Denmark last year and he smuggled in two 500g jars of the sticky stuff to feed his addiction. He was briefly considering a career change and becoming a yeast-extract-pusher, but his cover was blown when he started wearing a tee shirt with a large Marmite logo on the front.

Yes, that would give it away, op. The packaging of marmite and vegemite is very similar. I've nearly been fooled a couple of times.
