This is all quite interesting. If you go on a fetish site you will probably find the women outnumbered by a high factor, maybe five-to-one or more, and being pestered by a horde of desperate men

I've noticed that too. It's frustrating for both males and females.

I cannot now recall the exact details, but many years ago I read that if you asked 100 women if they would like a spanking, 18 would say yes and 50 would slap your face.

I didn't find the charts easy to find, or interpret, but going on posts here it's based on respondents' responses so is perhaps a biased sample. (Vanilla women less likely to be interested in spanking and less likely to participate in a survey).

When reading an article about the popularity of 50 Shades with women (much higher than with men) the writer said that in sexual activity women tend to prefer having things done to them, where men prefer doing things. That chimed with my own experiences and could explain, in part, female interest in spanking.

What I didn't get from the chart (perhaps I just didn't understand it) was a statistic that has always interested me--the proportion of sexually active women interested in the idea, or the actuality, of being spanked. (By sexually active, I mean women between the ages of 18 and 60, even though they may be married and in an entirely monogamous relationship).

A couple of years ago, I saw the results of a YouGov (I think) survey dealing with the sexual interests of the general population and specifically the proportion of men and women who would like to try BDSM activities--the proportion was interestingly high.

From that and personal experiences I decided that perhaps 5% of sexually active women would like to be spanked (or do like being spanked) which I consider a disappointingly low proportion.

Anybody know any better?

Geoffrey,

Very interesting discussion so far. However, I am curious as to your definition of sexually active, that is, why use 60 as your upper inflection point? I assure you there are many women over 60 who are both sexually active and interested in spanking. In fact, from what I've read in the medical literature, there doesn't seem to be an upper limit in sexual activity, especially in women.

If I misread your point, I apologize. Being a senior citizen married to a senior citizen, I have a slight chip on my shoulder when it comes to matters of age.

The other factors you mention would indicate a much higher number, so I'm guessing this is mainly based on personal experiences? Maybe you have just been unlucky enough to run into only vanilla women.

I'm having trouble figuring out what "BL" is short for. Is someone able to help me out?

It's the "Bottom Lines" spanking website, there's a link to it here under "Sites"... --C.K.

Based only on my own experience, my late wife and I were already seniors when we were able to practice spanking, and she was the one who gave over 90% of them.

Warthur, you are absolutely correct and I am sorry that I was not as clear as I should have been. I am, after all, a 70 year old man and know, from personal experience, that there is no cut-off, male or female.

In coming up with the range 18 to 60 I did not mean to suggest that girls under 18, and women over 60 are never sexually active but I do suggest there is a sine curve/distribution curve, skewed towards the youth end, because I believe, sexually active individuals increase markedly around 18 and decrease, probably, after 50. 18 to 60 was statistical shorthand for the cohort, taking account of the distribution curve. Insensitive, sorry.

Alef:
Perhaps there should also have been an embarrassment scale as I sometimes feel that a spanking fetish (with all its juvenile associations) is seen as more embarrassing than an interest in more rubber-and-leather style BDSM.

The embarrassment factor, especially "with all of it's juvenile associations" is something that adds a lot to a spanking, and is usually intended to.
