So decades ago a writer started a series called "Mack Bolan: The Executioner". Mack was 30 in 1968, but he's still quite active in the books. He survives more gun fights each and every day than the average Koren War veteran.
Why do I bring that up? One of his early books included the "Foxy Club". He didn't visit it, but he rescued one of the "Fox Girls" (or was she called a "Foxy"?). She worked at one of the foxy clubs, wearing fox girl costume - complete with the class fox tail and fox ears.
In short, the concept was clearly a reskin of the playboy bunny. One that avoided all possible trademarks.
Reskins are easy to do. Hooters has an owl as a mascot. What about a club "inspired" by the Booby Bird? Do that and you have Boobies, whose waitresses wear tight orange T-shirts and brief white shorts. Everything else is the same - but no trademarks are involved in the story.
Speaking of reskins, I really have to find the time to finish the Owlman story. |
