I have always been disappointed that some prolific mainstream authors only ever include one spanking in their entire bibliography, typically.

Frederick Forsyth - Dogs of War
Leslie Charteris - The Saint in Europe.

I wonder why some authors just include a spanking once only in their entire works, and other like Wilbur Smith, Delderfield, Clavell and Nicole have numerous?

I suppose some authors just aren't interested in spanking, and therefore include it only because it's part of the popular culture they're writing about, or if it furthers the plot.

Leslie Charteris did include the odd reference to spanking in some of his other books - for example:

'There once was a lady of Gotham
Who made love to young men and then shot 'em
Till she started to shoot
At a hard-hearted brute
Who just grabbed her and walloped her...for all that he was worth!

That one's from 'Enter the Saint'...

I assume you are referencing main stream authors but here in the library we have some very talented writers who have submitted one maybe two stories and then nothing more. One who I enjoyed was Expat and there are others.

Some people say that everyong has got a novel in them - whether they have the skill to write it is moot - and so a corollary might be that everyone has one spanking story in them.
Certainly some authors write essentially the same story time and again, but that is another story.

I just remembered that Robert E Howard, author of the 'Conan' stories (and several other series) wrote one spanking story. It was titled 'High Hat' and was published in his college magazine!

Perhaps not as mainstream as some but I was just thinking of Robert Van Gulik who wrote the Judge Dee mystery novels. There is a spanking discussed in the Phantom of the Temple which I read as a teenager. I found it very exciting and was one of those moments that confirmed where my interests lay.

The author who wrote the book that the bug vs space marines movie was based on essentially had a spanking or more in each of his books. Sorry, I can't remember his name or the movie's name.

That would be Robert Heinlein, although I'd venture that you're somewhat exaggerating his featuring of spankings in his novels.

Starship Troopers, for example, includes plenty of spanking references and analogies, even a high school classroom discussion about corporal punishment of children, yet no actual spankings...

While I couldn't remember his name, read him when in HS, every book I did read of his had at least a CP reference if not an actual scene or dream. That to me indicated he had an interest. In some ways, it was also reassuring as it meant I wasn't alone in the days before net access was common.
