I mostly write to explore themes and character dynamics. "How would this play out?" For this reason, I have lots of unpolished stories that I've never posted.

Very interesting subject. Like many of you, I have been a writer for nearly all of my life. I have been writing CP stories for over 20 years (so long, I can't honestly remember how or why I started). My first publications were in print, believe it or not! I had my own website for several years. I agree with some of the others who have posted that writing these stories and novellas strengthens my mainstream writing. However, all that aside, my main motivation for writing CP stories is I enjoy it, especially the diversity of it - the well never seems to run dry, even after 20 years. I am very grateful to LSF (both the Library and the publication site) for allowing me to expose my work. I am also grateful to my wife and partner, who is even more into spanking than I am.

I usually just get the idea for a story in my head and eventually I feel the need to write it down. Until I do it just keeps ricocheting around in my head getting bigger and bigger.

I started writing stories as a cathartic release from my experiences at boarding school, some of which were good, some bad and some downright weird. It is the weird ones which provide inspiration, not always quick to come alas but I know it's time to begin writing when sentences start to form in my head and to date it has never failed to achieve its purpose. I enjoy the act of writing, particularly in choosing the right word and playing round with sentences till I get what I want. And yes, I enjoy reading the comments, if any, on my efforts.

SNM:
First of all, to get myself off. For me, turning a fantasy into prose, expanding it and adding details and turning the people in it into detailed characters, is much more gratifying than just having it in my head.

I will take a fantasy of mine or even a life experience and message it, expand it, reinvent it and refine it. I enjoy reading my stories several months after I have written it. Writing forces you to deal with characters, personalities and your own feelings. After outlining a story I have looked people up I haven't seen in years to get their reflections on events I remember.
