Sometimes the idea for a story comes to mind and just burns there until I manage to put it into print, and occasionally once it is down, I find that my characters have changed it substantially in the process.

Like SeeGee, I write in a number of genres, some of it commercial, but unlike SeeGee I am woefully lacking in his range and fertility of imagination (if you sense deep seated jealousy, give yourself a gold star). Also unlike CS, unless I am doing technical writing, I do not do well with assigned topics or themes. A story idea has to resonate within my brain for that fire to ignite.

As for public adulation, that is not what inspires me to write, but I admit that I do enjoy it when it happens. I would, however, write even if no one else ever saw the product. If I didn't, I suspect that I would soon become a drooling idiot, unable to do anything but live in the story in my head.

Finally,

"but I'm KDPierre!" and.......nothing. It didn't do one bit of good

KD, clearly the doorman was not a spanko. Anyone on this site would have immediately ushered you to the best table in the house in recognition of your work, even if they had to displace the rich fat guy with the platinum blond who routinely leaves the hundred dollar tips. But look at the bright side, at least your cheeky attitude did not get you dragged back to the kitchen for the application of a large wooden spoon to those bared and bended cheeks.

Why I write changes based on where I am in the writing process. I have lots of ideas and fantasies but most of them never reach the page. Some of them simply lack that little spark that makes me want to actually sit down and put virtual pen to virtual page. Once I've actually started a story I write for myself, to entertain myself, to challenge myself, or simply to get a story out of my head! Once a story is ready for the editing process I tend to hit a wall. If it's that complete it doesn't interest me the same way it did while I was writing it. This is the stage when comments are so great. The thought of getting comments spurs me to edit, finish and submit the story to the library. Once posted I greedily read each one and bank them away for the next time I'm writing as motivation. Then I wait for the next idea.......

Hmmm, make that a female spoon-wielder and I'll head back with all the attitude I can muster.

And thanks for the compliment!

I write because I like the creative job of elaborating a fantasy. Being married to a vanilla wife, my writing also becomes a kind of substitute for the real thing - sadly. I started writing in my own language and I'm not proud of some of my early writings. Later I got the courage to write in English also. Although I consider my English to be pretty good I do need help to achieve a good quality. I'm very grateful for knowing a couple of authors who a most willing to proofread and correct my stories.

I've only posted a few stories here but have a number of unfinished stories and some ideas for new. After more than a years break I hope to continue my writing later this year. My best story is inspired by a weeks holiday in London 40 years ago, a fantasy of what could have happened. I guess all my stories are fantasies, which could be a nice fulfillment of my dreams.

I appreciate responses to my stories and always reply saying thanks for the comment and eventually adds some extra information caused by the comment. Therefore I do find it important to comment many of the stories I read here.

I had read so many stories over the years, from novels to short stories, and always admired the authors. I knew there was no way I could write anything!
There is one author, not on LSF, who writes the same story over and over, and I read one of his recently and was thinking shall we say unkind thoughts about his ability, when it dawned on me that I had a bloody nerve, I had not written anything since I left school, and that was a while ago. At least he was having a go.
I had been impressed by so many authors (especially Seegee and Alex Herd) and thought well what the hell why not have a go, and so I did.
Then when I finished part 1 of my story I had to send it in, from the outset it was going to be sent to LSF, well what a disaster. it was very very kindly pointed out to me that my Grammar left alot to be desired. 3 or 4 rewrites later (one heck of alot of kind and patient advice from Flopsy) and It was accepted.
Then the fear, would anyone read it, they did, would anyone like it, and they did.
The BUZZ was incredible.
I sent in part 2 (accepted on the second attempt, I was improving) and again I worried, but it was fine, and I check everyday to see if the number of readers has increased, has anyone commented, has anyone clicked the favourite button.
More BUZZ
And finally I am enjoying the writing process, it really makes you think and adds to the appreciation of other peoples efforts.
If you are thinking about having a go, for goodness sake do it.

I'm glad Shono98 started this discussion since it gives me as opportunity to share a few of my thoughts.

Because I enjoy it – I've always been an avid reader, and in the back of mind, I'd often wondered what it what it would be like to write. When I found the LSF last fall, I decided to give it a shot and have found that I enjoy writing immensely. The magic that seems to happen when I sit down and a story that was just a few vague ideas in my head starts to write itself is something that I never seem to grow tired of.

To become a better writer - I do a fair amount of technical writing for work, and I'm reasonably proficient with the basic mechanics of writing (grammar, punctuation, etc.), but I'm so new at fiction that continuing to write can only help me to get better at the more stylistic aspects of it.

To share - As far as I know, my wife is the only person that knows anything about my "kink," and being able to say and express things about my interest to like-minded people thorough my writing has been very liberating.

For feedback - I'm serious about wanting to become a better writer and feedback is a tremendous help in this regard. Before I submitted my first story on the LSF, I posted an earlier, considerably rougher version of it on another website. Although my story on the other site has been viewed over 9000 times, it's only received 7 comments! To top it off, very few of them are anywhere near as thoughtful or as constructive as the ones that the wonderful readers post on this site.

Ribbons – Having at least a mild case of OCD , getting those colored-coded ribbons for accomplishments (number of views, number of comments, etc.) motivates me. I don't see ever getting the red ribbon for submitting 500 stories, but I have a big enough backlog of ideas for things that I'd like to write that I think getting red ribbons for all the other categories is "doable" given enough time.

To create a legacy – Not to be overly morbid, but none of us are going to be around forever, and the thought that something I created will be around to give others enjoyment when I'm gone (hopefully not for a long, long time) is somehow comforting.

LSF Publications – In addition to writing for the LSF free site, I've had the opportunity to write half a dozen spanking "shorts" (7000 – 8000 words) for LSF Publications. Nothing I've written so far is burning up the sales charts, so I won't be quitting my day job anytime soon, but I do appreciate Flopsy's patience with me and her sage advice about the commercial aspects of publishing (i.e., what sells and what doesn't). The editing work that Flopsy does has definitely improved everything that I've written, and I really enjoy not having to deal with mechanical aspects of getting my stories listed for sale on Amazon. Now that a collection of my "shorts" been compiled and listed for sale. I'm looking forward to tackling a longer form project like a novella in the 25,000 word range.

Fame and fortune - To be completely honest, the dream of making piles of money through writing is enticing, but I'm grounded well enough in reality to know that something that is highly improbable. On the other hand, the author of 50 Shades of Grey has a reported net worth approaching 100 million dollars, so apparently nothing in the world is impossible. I did recently read the first novel in the 50 Shades trilogy to get a sense of what the buzz was about, and although I could see why it might appeal to some folks, certain aspects of it grated on my nerves so badly that I can't imagine torturing myself with the second and third books.

In closing, I'd like to encourage anyone who's ever thought about writing to give it a shot and submit something for the site. If you've even remotely thought about writing any spanking fiction, I can't imagine anywhere more inviting than the LSF as a place to get started.

I just need to see the stories happen. Sometimes I write to improve, but usually an idea bounces around in my head until I have to sit down and get it out. Most of my stories have been stream of consciousness in this way, where I just sit down once and write it from beginning to end. Occasionally I go back to refine it a bit.

I'd like to start cleaning them up more when I have a concept or a set of characters worthy of the time.

shono98:
Why do you write. How do you decide on a topic and what motivates you to take precious time and write stories for free.

The challenge. Writing does not come easy to me, so when I get an idea for a story I enjoy the challenge of putting it into words in a form that others might enjoy. I do not have the talent to be a great descriptive writer, so my focus tends to be on the plot. I usually like my stories to be semi-plausible - i.e. describe events that whilst unlikely, could conceivably happen.

shono98:
Do you need some kind of response before you consider it a job well done?

I write mainly for myself, but I have to admit I enjoy feedback and am disappointed if what I think is a good story gets few reads or comments.

shono98:
Does writing make you more likely to leave notes with others stories?

No. I think it is only good manners to leave a comment, so I would comment even if I did not write.

The other day I was trying to get into a crowded restaurant and was told they were booked. I replied, "but I'm KDPierre!" and.......nothing. It didn't do one bit of good. They had never even heard of me.

Yeah, I tried that as well, but when I said I was KDPierre, same result .... nothing. You obviously need to lace your stories with more 'Holy Cow's before we both starve to death!

Before I joined this site, my writings were solely for my own benefit. Some years ago I started what was meant to be a short story. Before it stalled on me it had turned into 50 + pages, and I was still only halfway there. Then I found stories on the Internet. I found sites with stories, which I downloaded. John Benson's site could keep me awake well into the early hours. When it closed, I started to look for his stories when someone wrote that some of them could be found here. And here I am. I wrote two stories in English and submitted them to flopsy, and once I saw my stories in LSF, there was no turning back. I've even restarted my dormant story in Danish with a mind to translate it into English. I am convinced that as long as I keep reading your stories - and commenting them! - then I'll keep on writing as well.
About comments. I started out with merely positive comments. "If you can't say something nice, you might as well keep quiet!" I have abandoned that idea along time ago. "Anyone writing a story for LSF deserves a comment from their readers."
Two of my more recent stories were prompted by a picture - a spanking picture of course - . The latest was one of Ann Madison's fabulous drawings. I wrote a link to it for one of my commenters.
Never ask writers to tell why they write. They'll keep ranting for far too long. Speaking of which I think I'd better say good bye.
