This sounds very much like a vivid imagination. As I recall, the British Navy abolished flogging in the 19th century. Hard to believe they would been authorizing any form of physical punishment in the 20th century


That's as maybe but all I did was link to articles and letter in respectable British Newspapers.

Thanks for the link Firefly. Had no idea that corporal punishment in some form continued into well into the 20th century in the Royal Navy.
Know that it had a reputation for harshness and brutality. In fact,that played a part in the opposition to impressment of sailors from American ships that led to our War of 1812.
There is a flogging scene in the movie Two Years Before the Mast based on William Henry Dana's book of thesame title.
