This sounds very much like a vivid imagination. As I recall, the British Navy abolished flogging in the 19th century. Hard to believe they would been authorizing any form of physical punishment in the 20th century
I agree, although there was often the suggestion these were unauthorised punishments or at best authorised in extreme war situations by not necessarily very senior commanders.
Some schools had cadet forces, and some offences certainly meant a cadet would be subject to school discipline, including the slipper or cane. Even some cadet forces not connected to schools did use similar punishments. Could something like this be the beginning of a story that then got blown up into something bigger?
It does seem that at least one national newspaper took it seriously. Did they know something?
