I don't take orientation into consideration. My scores are based on plot, originality, skill, and readability. All of those things are subjective, of course, but I try to be consistent.
Alef:
Long, unorganized stories on themes that do not turn you on at all, can be hard to get through, though.

Long, unorganized stories are difficult to get through, regardless of the theme. Length doesn't matter so much if a story is fun to read, but I would score an unorganized story down based on the skill and readability factors.

"Whatever floats your boat" in terms of assigning scores, I'm figuring--to me, it's a highly subjective process...

It is indeed highly subjective. Most of the stories I've read have been at least fairly well written (logical, well-organized, mostly grammatically correct, etc.). Within that group, the winners will undoubtedly be the ones that push the buttons of the most readers.
If my objective is to write a good story that pleases me, and my personal preferences are different from those of most readers, I won't win regardless of how technically well-written my story is. Only if the objective of all the authors is to please the largest number of readers is it a fair contest.
But that's okay, IMO. It's all in fun, and if an author throws in an extra spanking that isn't according to his/her personal taste in order garner more votes, I wouldn't consider that to be "cheating."

This is why I will never win. I would not write a story with pushing readers' buttons in mind. I just write for the Challenges because it is fun.

Only a week left to vote folks, get reading and vote (for me of course because my stories are numbers ---oops that would be cheating wouldn't it! If you wonder where it went look under Features and there it is.

I'm with Fi. I write what I feel like writing and as long as I can get an idea that fits the Challenge topic. We do this for fun. Like Fi, it probably loses me votes, but I'm just entering for the joy of doing it.

Damm I hate giving out 4 and 5 stars but with this crop, what can you do? I spent a lot of time staring at the screen trying to come up an appropriate comment to the material at hand. Great job Flopsy and her partner whose name I can never remember.. Congratulations to all LSF members who participated , truly outstanding.

Oh dear....I would have thought you had learned when you joined that Februs will send goblins out on the net to first eat your computer and then spank anyone who forgets his name. After all he is the god of techie on this site and we all bow down when he speaks.

Sorry Great God Ferbus. My computer is a mess but it always is, so hard to observe the difference.

At first, I thought you meant they were all so mediocre that you couldn't give any of them more than 4 or 5 stars, but then you finished by saying, "truly outstanding." So now I'm confused.

... Oh wait... I'm thinking of a maximum score of 10, but that's "half-stars." You must have been referring to 4 or 5 whole stars. Never mind.
