I understand that those of you using McAfee SiteAdvisor are being warned that the site is some high security risk or some such nonsense.

On their rather poorly written, incredibly slow website they boast:

Summary is our overall rating for the website. A site rating is our opinion of a website's reputation. The site rating is based on our interpretation of a variety of test results that we believe provide the best indication of a site's reputation over time.

We test sites for downloads, browser exploits, e-mail, phishing, e-commerce, pop-ups and cookies and affiliations with other sites.

We use proprietary techniques to visit and test sites. We then analyze the resulting data and present it to users in the form of colored icons.

Unfortunately, the reality in our case is that they simply marked the site as being a security risk on the basis of having ".co.cc" in the URL. I've submitted a 'site owner report' and a 'rating dispute' email but whether they will pay any attention to any of that is anyone's guess.

For those that have any concerns I can assure you that the site is 100% safe (as long as you don't eat at the Library canteen) and would suggest either getting rid of the McAfee software or using our alternative URL which as yet they haven't flagged as a risk to national security....

I have Norton 360. It will warn me even when it detects a threat and blocks it. Februs is correct in that there is nothing wrong with this site at all.

AVG has no problem with the site.

I used McAfee virus protection for a couple years, and paid good money for it; too much. I finally "fired" them when they insisted on placing pop-ups on my screen to push their various products. Part of what I was paying them for was pop-up blocking, but their software generated its own spam!

This is like having your hired bodyguard decide to rough you up then rob you! They didn't seem to comprehend my anger.

I found Norton 360 "clunky" and was advised to switch to Avast, which seems fine. A vast what, I cannot guess.

I have got a vast as well, and I think it is very good.

So we should steer clear of the pop-ups and the cookies?

Depends who is it that's sending you the popup, it could well be some lady with a shapely derriere wanting to know if you could see fit to spankering it for her.

As for the cookies, I am reliably informed that they are freshly baked in the Library canteen and to die for... or something along those lines anyway.

I have McAfee security plus from Verizon Internet Security Suite, with no problems. Everything seems fine.

The problem is with McAfee SiteAdvisor, Sebastian, which I believe is a browser plugin, not their anti-virus software.
