Last year I sent in a bunch of snippets that had started life on my blog. One of them was titled:
Mother's Day Surprise
It's short - less that 500 words.
The basic plot: this is the first mother's day for a newly blended family and a boy asks his new stepsister to buy the gift for his new stepmother - contributing some of the money his father gave him to buy the gift. As the summary says, he really should have checked to see what it was before it was given to his new stepmother.
