A Cruel and Unusual Punishment

Under fact of the day on the BBC website today.

The ancient Greek punishment for adultery was to shove a radish up the adulterer's bottom. Really it seems a mild punishment for adultery!! Not that I am calling for Old Testament values or Sharia Law! I wonder where the BBC get there facts from?

btw, I also read that: "In order to be allowed to apply rhaphanidosis to an adulteror, one must catch the man in the act of adultery with one's own wife, in one's own house. Rhaphanidosis was not the only penalty available however; sodomy by mulletfish was common as well, or the man could simply be killed on the spot. "

Rhaphanidosis. Who knew that the English language would have (or need) a word that means, "sticking a radish up someone's bum hole"?

I guess that will be my "word for the day" tomorrow. Now I just need to figure out how to work it into polite conversation at least 4 times within one day.
