Am I in the minority for liking spankees conniving to get a spanking?

Within the "consent" category, you get relationship spanking stories, but I have always found those less interesting as it is just seems too "easy" for the recipient.

When it comes to the "punishment" genre, it seems to me that the majority of that fiction leans more towards pure punishment and an unwilling participant, instead of spankees yearning for it, and trying to make it happen.

I would also imagine more readers probably enjoy receiving more then giving. Which is why I find it kind of strange that there isn't more of that. Since, as someone who does enjoys receiving, I can share in the relatability of the character who yearns for it, gets in trouble and then reaches the moment of bliss, fear, lack of control and delight when they finally do get punished.

Am I a unique slowflake, or just not looking at the right stories?

Spanking is a pretty popular sexual activity in bed. Spanking explicitly for punishment and little sexual value? Not so much.

You'll find plenty of sexy, consensual spankings in romance and erotica in all forms of media. I wouldn't say you're an outlier in general, but in my opinion on this site and a few others, you probably are.

I'm in the group that doesn't care much for consensual spanking but it's not explicitly because it has to be about punishment. It's about the power dynamics. I think a spanking can be enjoyed or even be playful and still be within the realm of non-consent. In my IRL experience, there are a lot of women who don't identify as spankos but can fully enjoy being spanked as long as they maintain plausible deniability when it comes to wanting or enjoying the spanking. The moment you try to make them admit it or talk about it directly, the bubble of illusion is popped. I liken it to the trope of the affair where both people's enjoyment hinges on the forbidden aspect.

There are plenty of stories where the spankee is topping from the bottom, or the top is very reluctant or apologetic and that misses the mark for me personally. I know it's exactly what some are looking for but to answer your question, I think that group is more in the minority. Punishment spankings and sensual spankings are on the opposing sides of a spectrum and I think the stories you're talking about live in that gray area.

Some authors can make these gray area dynamics work really well but it's more challenging, especially if it's not someone's key preference.

While quite a few of my own stories have girls consenting to spankings, for one reason or another - 'The Honesty Rebate' for example - girls actually arranging to be spanked? Not yet - though 'What Good Girls Get' could come close.

Thanks for your insight, that does make perfect sense. I guess in my mind dom/sub fiction tends to be more the "50 shades of grey" relationship type stories, and spanking fiction more focused on the physical acts and sensations. But I can indeed see how some readers could more enjoy the raw powerplay.

I do like a 'grey area' dynamic, where the receiver isn't too eagerly submissive and doesn't enjoy the sensation of the spanking, but isn't a totally unwilling participant either. An example would be a where it's for a repeated bad habit - say the authority figure doesn't force a spanking but asks them if that's what they need to stop them doing it, and they initially say no but on further reflection come round to agreeing this is necessary.

My ‘Bridget Gallagher’ series has quite a lot of that dynamic.
