Scarlett and her father in "Gone With The Wind"

This reference was not in the movie, but in the book it says that Scarlett's father Gerald spanked her on occasion when she was a kid.  It doesn't explain how he did it though.  Based on how his character was presented in the movie and using your imagination, how do you think he spanked her?  How do you see a typical spanking playing out?

I have the book, although it's a long time since I read it, and I don't remember the reference to spanking. I'd imagine her father would put her across his knee and fold up huge swathes of skirts and underskirts until he reached pantaloons/underwear and then the spanking would begin. Ladies and girls clothes of the time didn't make things easy.
