Sometimes I enjoy watching old B movies. Recently I was tracking movies linked to "And then there were none" - which included a version of The Study in Scarlet that had nothing to do with the short story, The Ninth Guest, and The 13th Guest.
The cute movie was the last one. A rather nice looked girl who has recently turned 21 (a major plot point since this means she can inherit) is threatened with a spanking by "the brilliant detective that the police call in". That detective spends most of the movie treating her as if she was little girl who can't think for herself.
Other than that, it's a bad mystery. With a good mystery you find out who done it and say "that makes sense because..." and you mentally list off the clues that pointed to the killer. With a bad mystery the viewer doesn't have the clues to guess at who did it, even in hindsight.
Anyway, if anyone wants to watch a threatened (but not delivered) spanking in a 1932 pre-code movie, it's available for free. Yes, the copyright lapsed so it is in the public domain.
