Pity we can't "borrow" fictional characters anymore for CP stories. I've made it a habit to only watch one trailer of an upcoming movie I wish to watch so as to not spoil the movie. That being said, I just watched for the first time the trailer where Billy (kid around 12) has become Shazam and, while looking like an adult, gets alcohol for himself and other kids. Now, if we could still write with "borrowed" fictional characters, I can just imagine the stories that little scene would generate. I understand why our respected Librarians won't let us anymore, what with the crazy suits monetizing everything, but sometime the entertainment world creates a scene that begs for a response from a Library writer.

Was not aware this had occurred. Too bad, no more spanking fanfiction. Only did one but still like the idea. Spanking fanfiction hard to find; most adult fanfic seems to be about sex, often as not abusive and nonconsensual. Ironic, isn't it, stuff gets online showing for example Wonder Woman getting raped and tortured gets by-but showing her going across her Mama's knees and getting her skimpy tights paddled would not be considered acceptable by the "suits" mentioned in the post about EU regulations. Can't blame our librarians though, better safe than sorry.

I understand why no one would want the potential liability of these franchises choosing to sue. They allow non profit personal use as a matter of public relations, not law. All the fan fiction you read everywhere is actionable. Crazy regulations just make everything worse.

Has this also happened with general erotic fanfic? There'd be a meltdown at fanfic.net and Ao3 if it has.

You can always make a Shazam knock off. Just file the serial numbers off him. Instead of:
Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury
you could have:
Sophia (Gnostic spirit of Wisdom) Polemos (the Greek divine personification or embodiment of war), Alke (the Greek spirit of courage and battle-strength), Nike (Greek spirit of victory) and Kratos (Greek personification of strength and power).

Imagine a Willy Waxer (or totally different name) who turns into SPANK. Or if SPANK isn't what you're looking for there are countless old gods you could use to make up a name. I wouldn't trust Wikipedia for real research but they have lists of names there.

Any word you can think can be spelled using the names of old gods. Any theme you can think of has a list of "god of - " on wikipedia.

So clone him, file the serial numbers off, and write a story about a clearly ripped off - er - "inspired by" character.

So, how far do we have to twerk things to get safely past the road blocks when writing fan fiction? Incidentally, I was just about to post a story where Wonder Woman indeed gets her buns toasted (yes, I do have a long-term weakness for that scenario). What if the superheroine is instead carrying the noble name Wonderous Woman? Is that good enough to get by?

This is worrying. I have a couple of slashes or fanfics here, but modesty prevents me from shsmelessly plugging them.

I finally saw the movie. Yes, it was funny. Yes, the hero screws up like a young boy would.

He:
buys beer
goes to a strip club
charges for selfies
doesn't fulfill his commitments
cuts school
lies like a rug

In short he does all the inappropriate things a kid that age would do if he could change into an adult superhero.

Now I'm thinking of filing off the serial numbers and maybe writing a story loosely inspired by that movie.
