What is "hardcore"?

kdpierre, I love your comments on Burgundy's list. (And Burgundy, welcome back; I've missed you.)

But to my original question, I don't really think that most of the things Burgundy listed make a story "hardcore" -- they may not be within bounds for this site, but I don't think that everything out of bounds is necessarily "hardcore," which has a strong explicit sexual component to me. I think if the sex scenes were "pornographic" in nature, that would be "hardcore". But maybe I just don't understand what the word means, or of course it may have different meanings/connotations for different people.

I was just playing. Too bad one got edited out....it was pretty good, but it was at least slightly political and I thought it might get cut. Anyway, I guess I had fun with her list because I think the meaning of a term like "hardcore" only ever seems clear to the person using it. It's a personal call. But that's true for any comparison of intensity.

A teetotaler would think the person having a single glass of wine had 'a lot to drink'. The moderate drinker might say that about the person who finished the bottle. And the person who finished the bottle and then downed another might hear about the guest who chugged a fifth of vodka and think they had gone too far. But the best would be the sympathetic friend who just watched his friend get in trouble by making a stupid remark and then defend him to his wife by saying, 'oh but he had a lot to drink'.......even though it was all club soda.

While I have found the audience here very diverse....... 'spankos' are notoriously among the most conservative of all sexual fringe groups with some of the CDD people not even seeing how their kink is kinky. So it's not surprising to get a comment like that here.

When I write a story I usually go over the top. I leave it for a day and then I edit out 90% of the sex and violence before I upload it, editing it down to about half its original length, leaving basically the spankings in. Maybe if we could have a skull and bones marking for really weird shit so us freaks could get to read it on the site?

Back before the internet made porn of all types easily available, the claim of being 'hardcore' was used to sell just about anything remotely pornographic - to the point that it became meaningless.

Nowadays it's more often used as a warning that content might not suit some viewers. In either case, it's a value judgement based on the content provider's personal opinion, not on any objective criteria.

For myself, 'hardcore' would be something that pushes (but not crosses) the boundaries of what I would consider to be too severe, too unfair, and/or too explicit - but those boundaries change over time, or even according to my mood...!
