And yet we are mammals and mammal moms in the animal kingdom do spank their youths. I witnessed it many times at home when my mama cat walloped her kittens if they tried to do something dangerous (in her opinion) and I saw it in Zoo and in many movies.

Please don't think I'm defending spanking toddlers or older children in real life - after all we are civilized, sentient and... ahem... at times intelligent beings, but that thing is atavistic to the mammal species.
