Bottoms!

I agree bottom is best but I am glad the English language has so many other words. We have even pinched derriere from the French! And that has a very pleasing sound to it.

However, the word is also used to denote someone who is a spankee or sub ... and I don't want to be called a bum or an arse!

Its a waste of a good word Linda but I wouldn't want to be called a top either Much better to be an arse than an ass!

Is this true? The British say bottom, and we crude Americans say butt? Actually I use the word bottom, also fanny and tush, even derriere, for variety in my prose. However, when a woman is especially well-formed in that part of her anatomy, I always think, hmm, she has a cute butt.

Bottom is a good word, it has a symmetry and double syllables. Almost looks right.

Ahh, now this one is problematical for us in Britain, since it means something quite different over here. The first time I read of a girl picking up her 'fanny-pack' I assumed it was something she kept her tampons in!

Ahh yes fanny is one I struggle with too... Completely different meaning over here

Curiously, 'crann-ton' translates from Gaelic to 'pink bottom'

although

'peirean' means 'buttocks'.

What an education I'm getting here tonight. I should have studied old Wulfram's Swedish side of his site more carefully. And I will never use the word 'fanny' again! I like the formality of the word bottom. Especially when used in the context of 'take your panties down'. However, I am hopelessly culturally programed to think in terms of 'geezz, that's a nice butt'.

In the most rural part of southern England, where Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset meet, there are three villages known collectively as "The Wallops" - Upper Wallop, Middle Wallop and Nether Wallop. Although Middle Wallop should indicate a standard spanking, I always found Nether Wallop sounded sexier!
