Ha! Knew that heading would get yur attention, you bunch of perves

Now then - here's the intellectual (ahem) question for the day - will someone please explain to me why bottoms are called bottoms, when in fact they are round our middles?

So logically, our feet should be called our bottoms!

And it's our middles that should get spankered

Somehow saying, "Get your middle over my lap!" Doesn't sound as naughty as "Get your bottom over my lap!"

And putting your bottoms up after a hard day doesn't sound right either. *lol*

I bet alliteration has something to do with it: Bum. Butt. Behind. Backside. Buttock. Bottom. Bare.

Well class...
etymologically "bottom" derives from Old English "botm, bodan," meaning "soil, ground, lowest part".
First used in modern sense only in 1794.
We SIT on it, on the ground. It's only our middle when we're standing...There could be a muckier, scatological explanation but that wouldn't be appropriate here.

jefesse's point about alliteration is noteworthy, and which letter do all these words begin with? And what does a capital B look like on its side...?
Now, for homework...

But if a person had no legs then 'bottom' would be correct?
