Is there any truth to the rumour that 7 of the 10 epidemiologists have now developed repetitive strain injuries themselves?

This is one of those times I just feel really stupid. There must be a joke here given the posts that have been written, but I've read this thread three times and am completely lost. What am I missing?

Yes, Bob. The World Health Organization's work to get to the bottom of this problem has been hampered because many of the epidemiologists hard at work on this study are on sick leave for the very malady they are studying.

Its a masturbation joke, but I don't get the part with it being clustered around certain dates.

SNM
Thanks SNM. I thought that some posts hinted at this being a masturbation joke, but others seemed to hint that the injuries were spank-related. And then the 'certain dates' part just threw me completely. I guess the old: "it's not funny if I have to explain it" adage is in full force on this one.

That's right. A joke that requires explaining just isn't funny. The "peak dates" are the dates following the release of new batches of stories, poems, etc. I may turn this into a story--a mystery--but it didn't work as well as I would have liked in this type of format. Sorry.

Ahhh, so that was the relevance of the dates. I didn't want to show my considerable ignorance.

You're not ignorant, opb. I didn't think this through.
