The other night, while at work, I was listening to the BBC radio. I heard a very startling scene report concerning Russia & us. Specifically, Russia has revoked driver licences (the right to drive) for the following people: trans-genders, transvestites & those who engage in sado masochists. That last includes people who engage in consensual CP. Rather frightening that people in our scene, let alone anyone regardless of their unique differences, have been targeted this way. My thoughts and goodwill is with our brothers and sisters in lapland who reside in Russia.

It amazes me how ridiculous the law often is, there are so many crimes being committed every single day, including driving offenses, and this is what they choose to do?

Well, I don't know how they know about people involved in DD - BDSM - or just plain CP without those people coming forward... Hm! Big Brother must be watching.... Very strange...

It's obvious the authorities are on the look out for car stickers that say things like the Moscow Bottom Smackers Club or the St Petersburg Dominant Wives Association.

I don't know how old y'all are, but ... I grew up with the understanding that Russia was going to nuke my ass into oblivion if they got the chance. Just because I wasn't Russian. You know what? Anything else, I can hide that shit. I will take "arrested" over "being nuked" any day.

Well, yes, I remember those days, Rik, and of course Russians understood that the Americans wanted nothing more than to destroy Russia and Russians. What I find really depressing is that brave Soviet citizens defied oppression and an attempted hardline coup, and now we've got a gangster. At least the old Soviet bosses had some remnants of idealism.

What's really weird about this law is its irrelevance. Imagine a government decided it didn't actually want to make whistling tunelessly illegal, but it would ban tuneless whistlers from using swimming pools or buying lottery tickets. Or it frowned on people who swam backstroke and therefore prevented them from growing fruit in their gardens or going to football matches.

They had remnants of what!!? And there was me foolishly thinking that all the idealists were in the re-education programmes at the labour camps. I suppose you could call Gorbachev an idealist but even he seems to be backing Putin now. Apparently the Russians like strong leaders. They even liked Mrs T and I only wish we could have sent her over on a non-returnable ticket.

It's true that the Russians like strong leaders and havce a tendency to trust them. But there is absolutely no contradiction between being an idealist and doing things like putting people in concentration camps. Himmler was an idealist. In the case of ageing Soviet leaders, I suspect there was some vestige of belief in a better world. That's no excuse, and of course, as you say, there were idealists in the camps. My point was that Putin doesn't seem to believe in anything except himself. Now, to avoid this discussion getting too far from spanking - since Putin is "a strong leader", anyone fancy being spanked by him? Or might he be a closet sub?

Putin is a classic bully and an idealist. His ideal is to rebuild the Russian Empire. All of his macho exhibition, from posing without his shirt on horseback to wearing his martial arts outfit to posing with various animals he's killed (apparently with his bare hands), is classic over-compensation (methinks the lady doth protesteth too much) and I'm betting he spends some serious time in a dungeon with a leather-clad dominatrix leading him around naked on all fours with a collar and leash, regularly whipping his ass with a riding crop...
