Emma Watson (famous for her role in the Harry Potter films) apparently gave a UN speech concerning feminism. I discovered it at yahoo for those who are interested. During the speech, she mentioned how certain segments of the media sexualized her at the age of 14. I bring this up because, to some extent, the CP community is guilty of this. For the record, this wonderful library is not guilty of this. I do remember, though, belonging to one of those story groups that e-mail's CP stories to the subscribers. One writer, during the period the Potter films were being made, wrote a series concerning the "mischief" Emma Watson, and her "stand in" got up to during the filming and the consequences there of. Now, I know all about the public persona argument, fan fic stories and there's no problem with fiction CP works using minors but I do think utilizing someone real and underage as a character in your works is unwise. I do not know if Ms. Watson ever encountered those pre-mentioned works but, while not being of a sexual nature, do fall into the category she mentioned. I think she was wonderfully brave to give such a speech and I hope her message spreads. |
